Margaret L. (Young) Wright, 90, passed away peacefully after a hard-fought battle with ALS on Tuesday December 12, 2023 at Signature Healthcare in Bremen. Margaret was born on July 5, 1933 in Florence, Alabama to the late Sam and Robbie (Ragan) Young. Margaret completed the 8th grade before ending her schooling to help take care of her siblings, the trait of caring for others that she continued to practice her entire life. Margaret met and married Joel Wright on January 22, 1950 in Iuka, Mississippi, sharing 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2006. Margaret spent her life as a caring mother, raising three children and helping them become the people they are today. She continued to care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a smile and looked forward to visits with her family.
Margaret is survived by her children, Deborah (Alan) Smith of Indianapolis, Robert (Debbie) Wright of Mishawaka, and Dana (Mindy) Wright of Petersburg, IN; her grandchildren, Bobby (Nicole) Wright, Jason Wright, Candy (Daniel) Miller, and Gracie (Josh) Loper; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Tom (Sue) Young of Elkhart. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Joel Wright; parents, Sam and Robbie Young; sisters, Nell Warren, Mary Clemmons, and Lola Askew, and her brother; Sam Young Jr.
Visitation for Margaret will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
