Margaret J. Varner, 90, of Huntsville, AL, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022.  Mrs. Varner was a lifelong resident of Madison County.  She was employed for many years at Genesco. After marrying her husband Jim, she went to work at the family upholstery shop, Auto Center Upholstery. She eventually ran a licensed home daycare for several years and touched many families’ lives. Mrs. Varner also loved to quilt and made many colorful quilts for family. She also made many beautiful Christmas ornaments that still decorate our trees every year.

Mrs. Varner was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Varner Sr., her parents Floyd Campbell Jr., and Mary Brosemer Campbell, sisters Louise Ray, Kathryn Patterson, Ruby Isbell, Martha Campbell, and Geneva Lee, and brothers Floyd A.  Campbell, and James Donald Campbell.

She is survived by one sister, Marie Bentley, and stepchildren James H. Varner Jr., Lois Lindsey, Richard Varner, Margaret Smallwood, Harold Varner, and Charles Varner. Mrs. Varner is also survived by 10 grandchildren Melanie Colgate, Heather Varner, Cherie Peacock Turner, Karli Wilson, Hugh Lindsey, Stephanie Bradbury,  Ricky Varner, Christina Green, Michael Smallwood, and Thea Bradley Varner, several great and great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation for Mrs. Varner will be held at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 9, at 11 AM, with funeral mass following at 12 PM. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund.
