Margaret Ila Madrie, 73, passed away at her home in Harvest, Alabama on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

Born in Merrill, Wisconsin in 1949, Maggie moved to Altoona, Alabama, with her husband Howell in 1974, and then to Harvest, Alabama in 2014. She was a member of Walnut Grove United Methodist Church for many years and later a member of Ford’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was an artist and educator and worked as an elementary and middle school art teacher for Gadsden City Schools for almost 40 years. She also worked with the Huntsville Museum of Art as a docent and children’s educator. She loved to travel and never passed up an opportunity to visit an art museum.

She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Wesley) Hardin, stepdaughter Sarah (Jamie) Adams, her grandchildren April Adams, Isabella Adams, and Ila Hardin, her sister Ann (Tom) Daley and brother John Cronin. She was preceded in death by her husband Howell Madrie and parents John Patrick Cronin, Sr. and Enid Cronin.

A visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville on Thursday, May 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Ford’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Harvest on Friday, May 12 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at Morton’s Chapel Cemetery in Walnut Grove at a later date.
