Margaret Frances Long, 89, of Athens, died Sunday, February 8, 2015. A celebration of her life will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church today from 3 to 7 p.m. A celebration of her life service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church. Rev. Alan Weatherly is officiating. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Young and Birdie; and a sister, Ernestine Young.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Marcus O’Neal Long; son, James Young; sister, Peg A. McCollouch; grandchildren, Connie Evans (Allen) and Jimmy Long (Jerri); four great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Long was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She served in leadership positions for United Methodist Women and was an active supporter of Red Bird Mission. She was a member of Mrs. Ruth Lovin’s china painting class.
