Margaret Cossar Mayfield, 94, of Bolivar, departed her life here on earth on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Pine Meadows Healthcare in Bolivar.
The daughter of the late Pete and Evie Gatewood Cossar, she was a life-long resident of Hardeman County where she worked as a healthcare giver for nursing homes and in private homes. She was married to the late Bud Mayfield on Thursday July 3, 1947 and, they were married for almost 53 years prior to his passing on Wednesday, March 22, 2000. She was a Baptist in faith and, in her spare time, enjoyed having yard sales, tending her flower garden and taking care of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Among her favorite things were visiting with her friends and neighbors at our local Wal-Mart and eating ice cream and cake.
A memorial service for Mrs. Mayfield will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:00 am, in the chapel of Shackelford Funeral Directors in Bolivar. The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to the services. Her ashes will be interred privately at Walnut Grove Cemetery just east of Bolivar.
She leaves a daughter, Susie Cook of Bolivar; two sons, Ronald Mayfield of Hornsby and Chris (Nina) Mayfield of Bolivar; two sisters, Inez Baker of Bolivar and Mary King of Atlanta, GA; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Patricia Jones and Debbie Mayfield; three sons, Donnie, Terry and Michael Mayfield; four grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Doyle and Shirley Lowrance; and two brothers, W. C. and Billy Cossar.
