Margaret Belle Crow
November 30, 1936 – January 3, 2018
Margaret Belle, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday. She was born and raised in Huntsville and graduated from Huntsville High School. She attended the University of Alabama and was a member of Tri Delta Sorority. Margaret Belle went on to work and travel for TWA Airlines. While based in San Francisco, CA, she met her husband, David. A. Crow. After they married, they moved to Auburn while David finished his degree in Architecture. Upon Dave’s graduation, they moved back to Huntsville to start their lives together and raise a family.
Margaret Belle was a member of the Junior League of Huntsville, Huntsville Garden Club, and the Huntsville Pilgrimage Association. She was instrumental in establishing the Maple Hill Cemetery Stroll.
Margaret Belle loved Huntsville and Huntsville history with a passion. She later became a local historian who loved telling Huntsville’s history to schools and visitors. She also conducted “Tours for the City of Huntsville” for visitors, dignitaries and companies considering making Huntsville their home. Margaret Belle also loved riding horses, tennis with her friends, telling stories and traveling with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Belle and George Mahoney, and her husband, David A. Crow.
Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia “Belle” Crow DuCray; son, David Andrew “Drew” Crow, Jr.; grandson, Dawson Andrew Crow; brother, George “Mentz” Mahoney Jr. and wife, Kathryn; niece, Ann Mahoney Linde and husband, Warren; nephew, George “Mentz” Mahoney III; and brother-in-law, Dr. James Walker Crow.
We would like to acknowledge all of Margaret Belle’s close friends and caregivers who have provided support and love to our family during her final journey.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Maple Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Virginia Moore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made for the preservation of the Church of the Nativity, or to the Huntsville Pilgrimage Association.
