Margaret Ann Whitenton, 83, of Chicaho, IL and formally of Tupelo, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Symphony of Lincoln Park Nursing Facility in Chicago, IL. She was born May 28, 1939, in Canton, AL to Arvie Thomas Whitenton and Viva Glasscock Whitenton. The family moved to Tupelo, MS when she was 7 years old. Margaret attended Tupelo public schools and, as a young girl, fell in love with the arts, theatre, and dance; especially ballet. She was a star student of Mary Alice McAllister. After graduating from high school she attended Butler University in Indianapolis, INĀ After graduating college she moved to New York where she lived for 3 years and worked with a ballet company, preforming and doing choreography. She accepted a job in Chicago as a choreographer for a dance company. She also taught private dance lessons. She later became a school teacher and taught elementary school until her retirement.
She is survived by her brother, Douglas Whitention; nephew, Jason Whitention (Margaret); great nephew, Josh Whitention; great nieces, Lauren Hutcheson (Ethan) and Eliza Whitenton.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 28, 2023 form 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Harrisburg Baptist Church. Inurnment will be at Lee Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Tupelo Humane Society or your favorite charity.
