Margaret Alice Almon Fulmer was born in Moulton, Alabama on May 21, 1934, the youngest child of Christine Wood Almon and Thomas Franklin Almon.  She was the baby sister to Misher, Lyndon, Ed, Allen, Tom, Collins, Dave, and Mary.  She was particularly close to Dave and Mary.
Alice grew up in Moulton and graduated from Lawrence County High School where she was a cheerleader and later, Florence State Teachers College. While a student at Florence State, she was crowned Miss Maid of Cotton and competed in the regional beauty contest in Memphis.   Alice remained close to many of her Lawrence County classmates and enjoyed the monthly get-togethers held many years after graduation.
Alice was a long-time employee of Ford Motor Company, and when that plant closed, she worked with Nichols Wire until she retired in 1999. She made many wonderful friendships while working at both places.  In 1999, shortly after a breast cancer diagnosis and a complete recovery, Alice joined the Courthouse Raquet Club.  It was there where she made new friends and enjoyed the company of many in the senior citizens workout classes.  One of those friends was Clint Simpson, with whom she became especially fond, and they shared many adventures and fun times together.
After retirement, Alice’s hobbies included reading, puttering in the yard, cheering for the UNA Lions, shopping for shoes, and ordering from catalogs.  She was a big fan of Lands’ End, LL Bean, and Orvis.  Her collection of shoes filled two closets.  If she found shoes or an item of clothing she really liked, she ordered one in every color.  She generously sent contributions to organizations that asked for donations to their causes.  As a result, she has a collection address labels that will last for generations to come.
Current events interested Alice very much.  She was most interested in national and local politics.  She closely followed the campaigns of the 2020 elections.  Although health issues prevented her from voting in person, she was delighted with the outcome of the Presidential campaign.
First Christian Church was also an important part of Alice’s life.  She was an active member that rarely missed a Sunday, until health issues and Covid changed all that.  Alice moved to Renaissance of Florence in January, 2020.  She loved being a part of that community and enjoyed the camaraderie of the folks there.
Alice was preceded in death by both parents, her brothers and their wives, her sister and her sister’s husband, as well as her much loved cats Blackie, Little Buddy, and Jordy.
Alice leaves behind her daughter, Cindy and her husband Chris Spraggins, one grandson , Matthew Spraggins, two granddaughters and their husbands, Caroline and Kyle McCaleb, and Emily and Will Harrison, and one precious great-granddaughter, Greenlea Anne Harrison.  Alice also leaves behind her beloved cat Molly, who now resides with Alice’s eight grandkitties and four granddogs.
Alice was a devoted mother,” Grandmono”, aunt, friend, and neighbor.   Her grandchildren adored her, as did every cat she’d ever owned.
Please remember Alice as a lovely, caring, person who will remain in her family’s hearts forever.  Donations in honor of Alice could be made to PAWS or The American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 17, 2021, 12-1 PM at First Christian Church.  Funeral services will follow at 1 PM.  Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.  Elkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
