Marcia Leigh Jackson (Pate) of Fort Payne, AL passed away on June 6, 2024, surrounded by her children. Marcia was born December 28th, 1930, in Conway, Arkansas, in the midst of the Great Depression. Marcia lived in Texas as a child and later moved to Atlanta where she attended school and graduated from Smith High School. In 1950, Marcia married her husband Dewey Ralph Jackson Sr.
Marcia and Ralph moved to Fort Payne Alabama in 1971 when Ralph was transferred there to work at Earthgrains. Marcia was a member of Fort Payne First Methodist Church since 1980. She was a devoted wife of 64 years, a loving mom to five children, a compassionate and fun-loving grandmother of eight and a beloved friend to many. While in high school, she won a Home Economics scholarship and this contributed to a lifelong love of sewing and handicrafts. She was an active participant in the Happy Hands sewing club at First Methodist and her talent as a seamstress is well established. She sewed most of her five children’s clothes, including her three son’s suits. She would often take her daughters shopping in Atlanta and let them pick out outfits that she would then sketch and then go home and “run up”. As her five grew up and became parents, Marcia shifted her skills to her favorite of all, sewing for her grandchildren.
Marcia volunteered for many organizations including Meals on Wheels, Garden Club, Arts and Craft Club, and Happy Hands. Until very recently Marcia and her very good friend Faith Richardson visited and sent cards and made phone calls to homebound members in their church. Marcia was also an avid mystery reader and enjoyed traveling and time with her family.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, June 9th at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. hour of service.
Marcia was proceeded in death by her husband Ralph Jackson Sr, her son Ralph Jackson Jr., her parents H.E. and Elizabeth Pate, and her sister Joan Pate. She is survived by children Charles Jackson (Ellen), Cyndi Fowler (Ron), Michael Jackson (Elizabeth), Elaine Bird (Richard), daughter in law Janice Jackson, sister Claudia Carney, sister in laws Elizabeth Rogers and Margaret Jackson, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Marcia will be so deeply missed, but we grieve with hope knowing she is living her best days with her Lord and Savior whom she loved so dearly.
Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of arrangements.
