Man Leaves Walmart With Shopping Cart Full Of Groceries…..Failed To Pay… Arrest Made

DECATUR-The Decatur Police Department answered a call to the Walmart on Spring Avenue about a shoplifting incident.  Here is how the Decatur Police describe the events concerning the arrest:

SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:

“On July 20th, 2014, Decatur Police responded to 2800 Spring Ave SW at Walmart in reference to a theft report. The theft was captured on security camera video surveillance.

Ricky Chad Murphy placed a large quantity of miscellaneous groceries into his shopping cart. Murphy then pushed the shopping cart up to the front of the store, past all points of sale, and out the grocery exit without paying for any of the groceries.

Murphy then fled the scene after loading the groceries into his vehicle. A warrant for Theft of Property in the Second Degree was sworn out in reference to the incident.

On August 24th, 2014, Murphy was arrested and charged with Theft of Property in the Second Degree. He was booked at Decatur City Jail and later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of $2,500.00 bond.”
