Mamie Odell Simpson, age 98, and a resident of Antioch, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at her residence.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 11:00AM at Heritage Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Williamson Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Williamson Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on September 19, 1925, in Franklin, Tennessee, Mamie was the daughter of the late Frank Holt and the late Lela Bennett Holt. Mamie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose life was full of strength, independence, and hard work. She found immense joy in her flower garden and gardening, spending countless hours enjoying the beauty of nature. She also had a fondness for antiques as well as cooking. Mamie was of the Baptist faith. Above all, Mamie cherished her family.
Mamie is survived by her grandson, Travis Poteet; brother, James (Frances) Holt; sisters, Lera Rainey and Mai Ambrose; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mamie is preceded in death by her brothers, Jim Holt, Bobby Holt; sisters, Rachel Bryant, Bertha Phillips, Ludie Tomlin; and children, Martha Gorton, Chester Poteete, Jr., Sonny Poteete, and Larry Poteete.
Serving as pallbearers will be Stan Wallin, Troy Phelan, Jackie Glenn, Mike Owen, and Harvey Smithson.
