Mamie Dill Amos – Obituary

Mrs. Mamie Dill Amos, 90, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 15, 2013. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home with The Reverand Roger Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Amos was born July 31, 1922, in Franklin County, Alabama to Isaac Simpson Dill and Mamie Ross Dill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon R. Amos; four brothers, Gilbert Dill, Raymond Dill, Ernest Dill, and Marlow Dill.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith Amos Hayes of Decatur; her two sisters, Flora Dill Brown of Tupelo, MS. and Stella Dill Byrd of Tuscumbia; her brother, Hollis Harmon Dill of Muscle Shoals; two sister-in-laws, Thelma Dill and Betty Amos; nephew, Ralph Amos and family; and many other nephews, nieces, and their families.

She lived most of her early life helping her family tend to their lovely farm. She attended the Franklin County Schools. In 1942, Mamie met Gordon and they were married on July 4, 1943. In the early fifties they moved to Decatur and opened “Gordon’s Cleaners” on Bank Street. They worked diligently for the next 50 years to make it the place people loved to patronize. She will be remembered for her faith in God, love of her family, keen intellect, hard work, and her love for her children. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 60 years.

Pallbearers wil be Ralph Amos, Larry Chapman, Ken Wallick, Rick Sharpe, Dr. Earl Rogers, Larry Dunlap, Bob Campbell, and Paul Alford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Decatur Building Fund, P.O. Box 1667, Decatur AL. 35602.
