Malinda Elizabeth Smith was born July 11, 1918 in Glen, MS the daughter of Charlie Parker and Daisy Martin McDonald. She departed this life to meet her Lord on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at her home, at the age of 94 years, 2 months, and 26 days.
Mrs. Smith lived in the Gravel Hill Community for 60 years, and was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church for more than 50 years, having served faithfully in many capacities. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Smith on September 15, 1935. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2007 following 72 years of marriage. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker who loved caring for her family and making a good, stable home where everyone was welcome. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, working in her flower garden, and helping her husband on the farm.
Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Marilyn (Smith) Meeks and husband Gerry of Ramer, TN; six grandchildren: Penny (Coln) Robbins and husband Danny, Tammy (Coln) Huggins and husband Craig, Tina (Coln) Lyles and husband Tim, Tracie (Coln) Stewart and husband Todd, Shane (Leonhard) Ferrell and husband Jason, and Hope (Leonhard) Atkinson and husband Ronnie; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Killingsworth; a brother, Sammy McDonald; a son-in-law, Russell Coln; and many extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Sue (Smith) Coln; six brothers: Ernest McDonald, Clayton McDonald, Hubert McDonald, Leonard McDonald, Johnnie McDonald, and Odell McDonald; and six sisters: Bertha Davis, Jessie Hall, Faye Blackwell, Ruby Smith, Jewell Coleman, and Kathy Rorie.
