Malcolm Everett Mason IV Malcolm Everett Mason IV, husband, father, son, brother, veteran and friend, died unexpectedly of a pulmonary embolism on December 11, 2020 at the age of 49, while at home in Huntsville, Alabama.

Malcolm is survived by his mother, Patricia Marie Mason-Bell; his wife, Amy Mason; his children, Amanda (12) and Malcolm Everett Mason V “Mac” (4); his siblings, Melody, Merry, Matthew, Michael and John; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm Everett Mason III; and his grandparents on both his mother’s and father’s side.

Malcolm was born in Oakland, California on January 19, 1971 to Malcolm Everett and Patricia Marie Mason. He graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic and State University with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering. Malcolm spent eight years serving in the U.S. Navy before signing on with Aerospace and Defense Contractor Northrup Grumman, where he spent nearly ten years leading the development of VIS-X, the U.S. Army’s next generation Vehicle Intercom System. His last eight years he was pleased to serve with SCI Technology, most recently as their Director of Business Development – Tactical Systems. On July 26, 2003, he married his college sweetheart Amy Croston, a devoted and skilled educator currently serving as an Elementary School Principal in Hunstville, Alabama. On June 8, 2008 and September 20, 2016 respectively, he welcomed his two beautiful children, Amanda and Mac. He cherished his family; they were most the important part of his life.

Malcolm was a first-born son, a devoted father and an avid musician. Over the years he enjoyed cross-fit, riding his motorcycle, all things 80’s rock and could be found most summer weekends enjoying time with his family out on the boat. Malcolm was well-read, well-traveled, had a fantastic sense of humor, appreciated a well formulated debate and never shied away from difficult discussions. He was a proud Navy veteran and long after his service remained deeply committed to defending the freedoms this great country affords. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

A small funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on December 19, 2020 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home at 2320 Bob Wallace Ave. in Huntsville, AL with the Reverend Ross Jaeger officiating.
