It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Maelene Cooper announces her passing. Mrs. Cooper, age 84 of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, March 1st. She was born on October 9th, 1938 to Mr. Charlie and Lena Mae Shields. Services will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 1pm in the Elkins Chapel in Florence with visitation beginning at noon.

Mrs. Cooper was raised on North Fulton Street in Florence, Alabama and started her married life there also. She always said that there was nothing she couldn’t tell anyone about Weeden Heights. She was a Christian woman and loved to cut grass. She always said that it was her time with God and it was always a good conversation.

She is survived by her children; Randell Cooper and Sheri Eagerton and her husband, Mark; grandchildren, Jessica Eagerton, Michael Cooper (Morgan), and Brooke Miller (Jeff); sisters; Dorothy Montgomery, Almedia Rice, and Violia Bailey; great grandchildren, Emma, Alex, Aubree, Ella and Stetson Miller; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cooper to whom she would’ve been married to for 66 years; her brothers, Troy and Alvin Shields; and a daughter in law, Lynne Cooper.

She attended Florence Boulevard Missionary Baptist Church until she became ill. She truly loved to hear Bro. Gregg’s sermons. She will be remembered in many ways, but most of all, she will be remembered by her grandchildren as Nanny.

The family would like to thank Amedisys home health and hospice. Especially the many nurses that made her care so much better.

They would also like to extend a special thanks to their neighbors that were there for them when they needed them.

“To my beautiful mother, you will never know just how much you meant to us.” -Sheri Eagerton and Randell Cooper
