Madison County Deputies Make Arrest In Tuesday Evening Shooting

MADISON COUNTY –ย  The Madison County Sheriffโ€™s Office has made an arrest following an investigation into a shooting that occurred late Tuesday evening, November 11, 2025:

At approximately 11:00 p.m., deputies with the Madison County Sheriffโ€™s Office were notified that an adult male had arrived at the Crestwood Freestanding Emergency Department suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported for medical treatment and was listed in critical condition. Based on initial information, the victim and another individual had traveled to meet a person they had been communicating with through a social media application. Upon arrival, they encountered a different individual, which led to a physical confrontation and the subsequent shooting. The suspect fled the area immediately afterward.

Detectives with the Madison County Sheriffโ€™s Office Major Crimes Unit began an investigation that included interviews, digital evidence review, and coordination with multiple service providers. Through this effort, detectives were able to identify a suspect and establish probable cause for his arrest.
On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Sheriffโ€™s Office detectives executed a search warrant at the suspectโ€™s residence. Evidence related to the shooting was recovered at the scene. The suspect, Kerstin Dewayne Matkins, 32, was taken into custody without incident and charged with Aggravated Assault in the First Degree. His bond was set at $30,000.
This case remains an active investigation. No further details will be released at this time. The Madison County Sheriffโ€™s Office would like to thank our detectives, partner agencies, and the community for their assistance during this case.
