Mabel Ruth Turner Norwood, 89, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at home on November 8, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Mrs. Norwood was born in Somerville, Alabama, but lived most of her life in Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents: Andrew Hobert Turner and Clara Barton Adams Turner; her husband of 58 years, Robert George Norwood; and four siblings, Maxie Turner, Freeman Turner, Louise Turner Sims, and Nell Turner. She is survived by her son, Edward Andrew Norwood (Shannon) of Franklin, Tennessee; her daughter, Angela Louise Norwood Schatz (Chris) of Longwood, Florida; and three grandchildren, Robert Glenn Norwood, Patrick Andrew Norwood (Jade), and Amelia Grayce Schatz. Her full time caregivers Charlotte and Bobby Posey have gone above and beyond the call of duty and become part of the family. The family also wishes to acknowledge the outstanding efforts to care and comfort her provided by SouthernCare/New Beacon. Mrs. Norwood was very active in the Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Primary Level Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was president of the Women’s Missionary Union. She was devoted to her family. If you asked what gift she would like to have for an occasion she would always say, “just to have my whole family together”. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Roselawn Funeral Home. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. and the service will begin at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Gideons International, the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, or St. Jude’s Hospital.
