Lynne Southall Swanson died on Friday, May 16. A native of Birmingham, Mrs. Swanson was a member of an old and prestigious Alabama family.
She was a proud graduate of The University of Alabama. Deeply involved in civic activities, Lynne taught 2nd grade for several years and had been a successful realtor with her own business when her family lived in Melbourne Beach, Florida.
Lynne loved Huntsville and was a longtime member of The Church of the Nativity, Episcopal. She served as president of the Episcopal Church Women and as a Delegate to the National Convention in 1976 which approved women for ordination.
Lynne was a devoted volunteer and member of Gothic Guild, Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild and the American Association of University Women. She was a faithful volunteer for Randolph School and a Girl Scout Troop leader.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by her beloved daughter, Susan Swanson Fortner and husband Mark; cherished grandchildren, Frederick Seay Fortner and Frances Ryan Fortner; as well as by former husband, Charles Peter Swanson. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Southall Hester.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 20, at the Church of the Nativity, Episcopal followed by the funeral service at 11 am, with The Rev. Dr. Andy Anderson and The Rev. Rusty McCown officiating.
