Lynda Louise Burke Hon – Obituary

Dr. Lynda Louise Burke Hon of Huntsville, Alabama died at age 63 in her home on July 30, 2017. She was born in Biloxi, Mississippi to her parents Harlan and Dorothy Burke in 1954. She grew up in Athens, Alabama and attended Athens High School. From there, she attended college at the Mississippi University for Women and obtained her Medical Degree in 1980 from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, later becoming board certified in radiology. She did her postdoctoral training in diagnostic radiology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, Texas and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Texas.

While in medical school, she met the love of her life, Dr. Jeremy Hon. The two began their romance while studying for the National Board exam. They were married on April 14, 1979 and had three children.

Lynda practiced medicine as a radiologist in Huntsville, Alabama for four years, retiring in 1989 upon the birth of her third child. She traveled the world, journeying to all seven continents with her husband and family. She loved books, cooking, and collecting Nativity sets.

She gave back to her community, serving as president of the Gothic Guild and the Madison County Medical Alliance. She was a member of Willowbrook Baptist Church.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Jeremy Hon; her daughter Dr. Emily Louise Hon Castellanos and her husband Dr. Jason Alfred Castellanos; her son Kevin Duane Hon and his wife Angela Kathryn Hon; and her son Dr. Jason Jeremy Hon and his wife Weiling Liu. She leaves behind two grandchildren she adored: Iris Amelia Castellanos and Isaac Peter Castellanos.

The visitation will be held at Willowbrook Baptist Church on August 4th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, with funeral services immediately following.
