THE SHOALS – The Luther Irons breakfast each Labor Day was the place to be. Out at the Fairgrounds, politicians and shakers-and-movers from all over Alabama would attend. It was a wonderful get-together where you could see old friends and make some new ones. It was also a must-attend event, if you wanted Luther’s light to shine upon your political career.
Mr. Irons passed away last March. But his memory endures. His Labor Day Breakfast took place as usual… Well, it started an hour later than Luther started his, but that’s the way it goes. Another difference in this year’s event, it was called “The Luther Irons Memorial Scholarship Breakfast”. He would have probably liked that.
