Mr. Luther Eugene Potts, age 83, of Columbia, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2017 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Luther was born on June 4, 1933 in Maury County, Tennessee to James Vance Potts and Fannie Bell Massey Potts. He served honorably in the United States Army. He married Lucy Derryberry on June 5, 1954 and they had 62 wonderful years together. He was a wonderful family man and in their eyes, no one could ask for a better husband, father and grandfather. Luther was also a God loving and God fearing man. He put his faith into action in his daily life and worshipped at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon. He was a man of his word and you always knew if Luther said it, you could “take it to the bank.”

He was also interested in Tennessee Walking Horses, and attended and supported the Walking Horse Celebration for over 53 years. He was a former member of the Maury County Horsemen’s Association. He also was a hard-working man having enjoyed two careers in his lifetime. He was retired as a supervisor from Occidental Chemical Company for thirty-eight years. After retirement, he owned Lewisburg Garden Center and Landscaping for 19 years. Whether working, playing, spending time with his family or worshipping the Lord, Luther always enjoyed the life he lived.

Luther is survived by his loving wife: Lucy Potts of Columbia; children: Yolanda (Terry) Dial of Columbia, Tennessee, Yvonne (Alex) Cortner of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Bryan (Amy) Potts of Lewisburg, Tennessee; 7 grandchildren: Callaway (Ashley) Dial, Ashley Jones, Russell (Samantha) Dial, Richard (Caitlyn) Jones, Chase Cortner, Brandy (Dane) Hargrove and Chad (Rebekah) Cortner; siblings: Pearl Boshers and Darrell (Melissa) Potts; sister-in-law: Joyce Potts; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Fannie Bell Potts; brother: John Wayne “Bubba” Potts; brother-in-law: Robert L. “Jerry” Boshers; and nephew: Randy Boshers.
