Luther Douglas “Doug” Young, 69, resident of Hays Drive, died Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care Center.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 12:30 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Peter Whalen officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 noon at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born September 10, 1948, in Maury County, he was the son of the late Luther W. Young and the late Ruby Lee Wortham Young. He was a 1966 graduate of Columbia Central High School, a graduate of John A. Gupton Mortuary College, and earned a degree in Business Administration from University of Tennessee Nashville. He was stationed in Thailand in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam era. During the late 1960’s to the late 1970’s, Doug was associated with the Maury County Ambulance Service and employed as Funeral Director/Embalmer at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. He later became a car salesman, working for several Columbia dealerships. He served as Treasurer on the Board of Rose Hill Cemetery for a few years. He enjoyed spending time near the ocean.

Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Mary Frances Craig Young of Columbia; son, Bryan Douglas Young of College Grove; sister, Janice Young (Greg) Ollick of Grayson, Georgia; aunt, Christine Young McKee of Spring Hill; several cousins; and very special and devoted friend, Sam Sweeney.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Young.
