Lurinne Busby met her Creator from her son’s residence in Pontotoc on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, after a long, fruitful life of 92 years. Born Lulah Corrine Harris in Shannon to the late Floyd Harris and Mozelle Gryder Harris, Lurinne moved with her family at a young age to Okolona where she lived the rest of her life. A graduate of Okolona High School, she announced her attendance at Wood Junior College to receive her “Mrs.” Degree. She succeeded when on August 18, 1950, she married Billy Busby, whom she met at Wood Jr College. A devout lifelong Methodist, she attended the First United Methodist Church of Okolona for over 8 decades. Lurinne loved reading and studying the Bible and daily reading devotionals. She spent her working life first as a seamstress at Meadow Sportswear in Okolona, later spending a couple decades at Rose Hill Furniture Mfg. where she was a scheduler. Her greatest and most enjoyable work was with Dr. Joe Shoemaker, where she served as his Office manager for years. Lurinne enjoyed square dancing in her younger days with her husband, Billy, working crossword puzzle books, sewing, cooking and using her computer. A virtuous lady whose gentle voice and pleasing personality and poise set her apart from most, Lurinne was a born encourager to her family and wide circle of friends. She loved her three children, her 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and doted over them constantly. A “Lighthouse” figure to so many in Okolona, Mrs. Busby’s legacy will be that of a Proverbs 31 woman whose purpose driven life touched everyone with the spirit of Christ as she was his face among his people.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 PM Sunday, December 17, 2023 from the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Alan Hall and Dr. David Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM to service time on Sunday only at Holland-Okolona, 300 W. Main St., Okolona, MS 38860. Private burial will follow in Shannon Cemetery.
