Lula Harris Farley was born to the late Robert and Bessie P. Harris on Aug. 4, 1925, in Colbert County, Alabama. Surrounded by family, she was called to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015.
A graduate of Leighton Training High School, she received training as a cosmetologist in Detroit, Michigan. Ms. Farley spent more than 40 years as a licensed cosmetologist in Sheffield, Alabama.
Married to the late Earl Farley for 49 years, they raised two sons and one daughter.
Very active in her church and community, Ms. Farley was the first African-American “Pink Lady” at Colbert County Hospital now known as Helen Keller Hospital. She was a “Pink Lady” for more than 50 years.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Horace L. Winborn (Lillian), Knoxville, Tennessee, devoted son, Stanford E. Farley (Margaret), Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and LaDora F. Howard (Gary) Mobile, Alabama; and grandchildren, Von Turner and Brian Walker, Knoxville, Tennessee, Razza Mitchell, Atlanta, Georgia, Casey E. Farley, Huntsville, Alabama, Brenton Howard, Birmingham, Alabama, and Lauren Howard, Normal, Alabama. She also leaves four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at First Missionary Baptist Church, Sterling Boulevard, Sheffield, Alabama. Pastor Jeffery Braxton will officiate.
