Lula Faye Beckwith, was born March 10, 1951 to Lonnie and Christine Thompson in Cherokee, Alabama. After a brief battle with cancer, she departed this life on October 9, 2013 at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama with family members by her side.
Lula graduated from Cherokee High School in 1969. After high school, she received her Bachelor’s degree in 1973 from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama. She retired from South Central Bell after 25 years of services. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Lonnie Thompson Sr. and Elzater Thompson and maternal grandmother Lafrazia McCray, two uncles; Charles Thompson (Lemyrtle), Floyd Thompson, one aunt; Elois E. Gunn (Arthur), a mother-in-law, Margaret Beckwith; and two brother-in-laws, Henry Beckwith and Robert Collins.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a husband: Danny Beckwith Sr., Muscle Shoals, Alabama; three children: Danny Beckwith Jr. (Stacey), Bossier City, Louisiana, DeQuan Beckwith, Muscle Shoals, Alabama and LaCondria Beckwith, Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren; Kanesha Beckwith, Danesha Beckwith, Deonte Collins, Antonee Beckwith, Amaya Beckwith, Aric Beckwith; one great granddaughter, Karianna Long; parents: Lonnie and Christine Thompson, Cherokee, Alabama, one sister: Hattie Thompson, three brothers; James Thompson (Mellitie), Freddie Thompson (Darlene) Cherokee, Alabama, Rufus Thompson (Bonnie) Tuscumbia, Alabama, three uncles Rev. Estes Thompson (Shirley), Cherokee, Alabama, Chasie Thompson (Allean), Huntsville, Alabama, Earl Lee Douglas (Jeraline), Barton, Alabama, one aunt; Lula Curtis (Robert), Lima, Ohio; father-in-law, Robert Beckwith Sr. (Sue), Tuscumbia, Alabama; one sister-in-law, Mary Collins, Muscle Shoals, Alabama, five brother-in-laws, Robert Beckwith Jr. Tuscumbia, Alabama, Richard Beckwith (Vernilda) Sheffield, Alabama, Jerry Beckwith, Zachary Beckwith (Dana), Florence, Alabama, Darryl Beckwith, Tuscumbia, AL; a devoted cousin, Glenda Simpson. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, 6-8:00pm, Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, AL.
