Lula “Dale” Cummings, 81, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Traceway Manor in Tupelo. Dale was born in Arkansas on September 6, 1941, to Cleveland and Raby “Ruby” Petty Wehunt. She was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the Golden Agers group. Dale loved going on trips or outings with the group and she loved all of her friends dearly. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, which kept her busy with new friends. Since moving to the Manor, Dale made numerous new friends and joined in on any activity or event offered.
Throughout the years, Dale was eager to learn new things. She studied courses in interior design, photography, and real estate; however, she held many other positions throughout her life. She was once a car salesman, welder, and much more. She was a “Jill-of-all-trades.” Dale eventually retired from North Mississippi Medical Center. Her philosophy on life was that she wanted to live hers fully. She always said that she refused to sit around and waste her life. She wanted to learn and do as much as possible and her hobbies prove it.
She enjoyed crafts of any kind, but especially sewing, knitting, and painting. She really enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. One of the highlights of her week was Saturdays spent on special outings with her sidekick, Rock.
Dale is survived by her husband, Charles Cummings; three sons, Mark Cummings and his wife, Brenda, of Shannon, Philip Cummings and his wife, Angie, of Randolph, and Rusty Cummings and his wife, Melissa, of Brewer; 12 grandchildren, Santanna Nikkila (Kyle), Marcus Cummings (Skyler), Coley Boyette (Brittney), Josh Boyette, Christian Boyette, Nick Cummings, Emma Cummings, Laken Smith (Nathaniel), Rock Cummings, Heidi Christian, Kim Harper (Robert), Jamie Satterfield (Randall); one brother, O. J. Wehunt and his wife, Peggy; one sister-in-law, Christine Humphrey and her husband, Steve; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Dale was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Cummings; two brothers, Richard Wehunt and Dillard Wehunt; two sisters, Retha Murphy and Lavern Lamb; and one great-grandson, John Baylor Smith.
