Lucille K. Johnson – Obituary

Lucille K. Johnson, 91, of Huntsville passed away Friday at her home under hospice care. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband Glenn “Johnny” Johnson in 1999.

Originally from Boaz, AL. Mrs. Johnson came to Huntsville in the 1950’s to work at Redstone Arsenal. Johnson married in 1956, started her family in 1957, and made Huntsville her home. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, in addition to being a stay at home mom, she sold Beauty Counselor cosmetics and sang with the Huntsville chapter of the Sweet Adelines. In the 1970’s Mrs. Johnson worked for the U.S. Army at the Redstone Arsenal in the transportation department. Johnson enjoyed playing golf with her husband and friends for several decades at the course on the Redstone and many other places. In retirement she remained active golfing, clogging, and walking well into her eighties. Mrs. Johnson also enjoyed reading, watching television, and being with her family and friends. Mrs. Johnson was also a member of the Holmes Street Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son; Danny Johnson of Huntsville AL., her grand-daughter; Kim Manning of Huntsville AL., her nieces; Linda Gregg of Montrose, AL., Betty Smith of Boaz, AL., and other family.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with Chaplain Rich Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill, Inc. Cemetery.
