Mrs. Lucille Jane Sanders Dent Lucille Jane Sanders K. Dent (Lucy) was born on March 16, 1934, in Coatopa, Alabama. She was the seventeenth and youngest child born to the union of Jesse and Eliza Sanders.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at her brother Roosevelt’s church in Muskegon, Michigan. She attended Central Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri for many years.

Lucy had a caring spirit and worked professionally as a licensed practical nurse.  She also had a natural   talent for beauty. After retiring from the healthcare industry, she went to cosmetology school and became a licensed cosmetologist.  After completing her state board in Jefferson City, MO, she operated a full-service salon from her home in the Penrose neighborhood of St. Louis, where she took pride in styling her family and friends.

Lucy united in marriage with Israel Killings, Jr., also from West Alabama.  Their union bore four children: Minnie, Israel III, Wilbert, and Sandra.

She made St. Louis her home in 1960, where she met her loving companion, John Joiner.  Lucy and John had four children: Christine, Michael, Yvette, and Ricky.

In 1985, Lucy married retired schoolteacher Alonzo L. Dent. They remained married until his death in 1990.

Lucy transitioned peacefully on December 1, 2023. Her parents and all of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

She leaves many to cherish her memory, including her eight children, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Royal Chapel of Memories (4315 Oakwood Avenue NW, Huntsville, AL 35810) with Reverend Marticia Banks-Booker officiating. Interment will be in the Huntsville Memory Cemetery.

The Dent family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the Royal Chapel of Memories.

Public viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, and 8:30 until 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Royal Funeral Home.
