Louis “Rod” Rodney Thornberry

Louis “Rod” Rodney Thornberry, age 80 of Madison, AL, passed away Friday at Huntsville Hospital.  Rod, a native of Lawrenceburg, TN, served in the United States Army for six years and during that time achieved the rank of Drill Sergeant.  He received an honorable discharge in 1973.  He went on to earn a Masters Degree in Engineering and later retired from Wyle Laboratories after 40 years. He went on to pursue a stronger devotion to God whereby receiving several certificates in Theology and Biblical Therapy.  He enjoyed writing poems, golf, guitar, harmonica, nature, photography, and family. He was a man who loved to use his mind.  Over the past 10 years he had strengthened his relationship with God and enjoyed helping others with their own journey.

He is survived by his four children, Jaennae, Frank, Ricky and Nicole. He is also survived by over a dozen grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.  The funeral service will be Wednesday at 11:00 am in Spry Funeral Home’s Chapel with Pastor Greg Simon officiating.  Interment will follow at Bumpas Cemetery in Lawrenceburg, TN.

He will be missed, but never forgotten.  Because he will always be our Valentine.
