Louis “Jack” Guthrie Sr. of Toney, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Friday. He was 89 and was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Guthrie had retired from Huntsville Utilities where he was a diesel mechanic.
Jack was a faithful Christian and a member of Friendship Church of Christ. He loved animals, especially his cats, and in his younger years, enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Michael Guthrie; his brothers, Bill Guthrie, Frank Guthrie, Thomas Guthrie, and Bobby Guthrie; his parents, William L. & Clara Guthrie.
Surviving family members include his wife of 64 years, Betty Guthrie; his son and daughter-in-law, Louis L. Jr & Trista Guthrie; his daughter, Liz Behr; his grandchildren: Tabatha Rhodes (David), Mathew Guthrie (Beth), Colton Guthrie (Jen), Dustin Aurand, Autumn Rivera (Rusty); his great-grandchildren: Lora, Dawson, Addy, Rainer, Mason, and Amelia; He is also survived by his sister, Dovie Sledge and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6pm until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at Noon at Hazel Green Funeral Home with Brother Tony Demonbreun officiating. Burial will follow the service and will be in Plainview Cemetery. After the burial service, there will be a meal provided at Plainview Church of Christ in Hazel Green.
Jack will be remembered for his sense of humor, for his kind and gentle spirit, and for his love for his Lord, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
