Loretta Kathleen Zuhowski Girsch, age 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at her home in Columbia, TN Saturday, May14, 2022. Loretta was born September 13, 1926 in Pine Island, NY to the late Walter Zuhowski and Genevieve Kushkowski.
Loretta’s life all everyone’s at the time was affected due to the war. She was Rosie the Riveter. Loretta worked in a secret camouflaged facility, that was covered with trees and other fauna so that it could not be spotted from the air. It was there she worked producing blue prints for fighter jets for the war effort. Following the war Loretta worked with schools for a while aiding with education and child care, before she finally settled and had her own. She poured her heart and soul into loving her family and raising her children. She was an incredibly loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Loretta always enjoyed volunteering at the hospital or spending time tending to her garden. She also loved to prepare food and share with family and friends. She was always quick to bring a smile with her wicked sense of humor. In everything she did there was compassion and love for another. Loretta is loved deeply and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Loretta is survived by her daughters: Patricia Barry and Deborah (David) Quackenbush; granddaughters: Loretta (Micahel) Kisiel and Rebecca Quackenbush; and great granddaughter: Kathleen Kisiel. Loretta is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Girsh and her brothers and sisters.
