Lorene Bishop Rice, age 90, a native Huntsvillian, joined the heavenly chorus on January 31, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William E. Rice; her parents, E. Vann Bishop and Nannie Jones Bishop; and her nine older siblings.

Mrs. Rice is survived by her daughter, Trena Powers (Hayes); son, Kevin Rice (Deen); grandson, Todd Powers (Shannon), and great-grandsons, Jack Aubrey Powers and William Henry Powers.

Lorene, “Zenie” to her family because she was pretty as a flower, retired from the U.S. Army Missile Command following a career in Purchasing.

She enjoyed many special gatherings at “The Lake” Guntersville cabin, Rison/Dallas Village Reunions; and her husband’s U.S. Army 582nd Reunions which took them to many venues across the United States. Mrs. Rice also enjoyed landscape gardening, decorating, sewing, painting, sports, singing, dancing, writing fun poetry “ditties”, and homemade banana ice cream!

Mrs. Rice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; and a member of Jackson Way Baptist Church, where her cherished joy was singing in the choir.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Special thanks to all who cared for her including Millennium Health Care and Kindred Hospice professionals.

Memorials may be made to Jackson Way Baptist Church. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
