Lorelle Crawford Singleton, age 85, formerly of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 with her husband and daughter at her side at her home in Vestavia, Alabama.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10am Wednesday, June 14th, in the chapel of Austin and Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Jack Stubblefield officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Tuesday, June 13th, and again from 9am until time of the service at 10am Wednesday at the funeral home.
Lorelle was born in Springfield, TN on May 23, 1938. She was beautiful as well as fiercely loyal and determined. She graduated from Coopertown School when it was a K through 12th grade facility and played high school basketball with a team that still is in contact with each other to this day.
Lorelle’s mother Marie Crawford raised her alone, living in rented homes. When Lorelle graduated high school she went to work at Southern Bell, passing up a college scholarship. She saved her earnings and built a home for her mother and grandmother that stands to this day and is filled with echoes of family and friends who spent time there.
While working at Southern Bell, she met the love of her life Jerry Singleton, and they married in 1967. Their daughter Jennifer was born in 1970.
In 1996 she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer which she fought with tenacity and courage and defeated, living 27 more years. She got to see her daughter graduate from medical school, marry, and give her a beloved granddaughter Rebecca Marie.
She is proceeded in death by her mother Marie Crawford and her grandmother Susie Holloway. She leaves behind her loving husband Jerry Singleton, daughter Jennifer Ashworth, son-in-law Michael Ashworth, and granddaughter Rebecca as well as many loving friends.
