Once again it has pleased our heavenly Father to translate from the labor of this life to the sweet rest and fellowship of the saints in Heaven another Christian. Mr Lonnie Thompson Jr. (Pudd’n Cake) was born in Cherokee, Alabama July 22, 1925, to the late Mr. Lonnie Thompson Sr. and Mrs. Elzater Thompson. He departed this life Sept. 5, 2017, at the age of 92.
He confessed faith in Christ at an early age and united with Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Cherokee, Alabama, where he served on the deacon board. He loved his church. He believed God’s word. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but his church, the community, and by all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memories are a devoted wife of 72 years, Mrs. Christine Thompson, of Cherokee, Alabama; three devoted sons, Mr. James Thompson (Mellitie), of Sheffield, Alabama, Mr. Freddie Thompson (Darlene), of Cherokee, Alabama, and Mr. Rufus Thompson (Bonnie), of Tuscumbia, Alabama; one devoted daughter, Hattie Thompson, of Cherokee, Alabama; one son-in-law, Mr. Danny Beckwith, of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; one sister, Mrs. Lula Curtis, of Lima, Ohio; two brothers, Revered Estes Thompson (Shirley), of Cherokee, Alabama, and Mr. Chasie Thompson (Allean), of Huntsville, Alabama; a brother-in-law, Mr. Earl Lee Douglas (Jeraline), of Barton, Alabama; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, 6-8 p.m., at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, Alabama. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Cherokee, Alabama. Reverend Ronnie Thompson is officiating. Burial will be in Newsome Cemetery, Cherokee, Alabama. The body will be placed in the church at noon. The public viewing will be Sunday, 1-8 p.m.
