Mrs. Lola Mae Hager, 73, of Florence, Ala., formerly of Long Beach, Miss. and Manila, W. Va., was born Jan. 11, 1939, at Manila, W. Va., a daughter of the late Delbert Ray and Myrtle Mae Fowler Wheatley. She departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Florence, Ala.
Mrs. Hager was retired from the Long Beach, Miss. Police Department as Assistant to the Chief. Lola was proud of her Manila Church of Christ roots. She was preceded in death by Newell Hager; son, Gary Hager; brother, Namon Ray Wheatley; sister, Cathy Gullet; and brother-in-law, Tiny Gartin.
Survivors include daughter, Vicki Lynn Hager Lawson; grandson, J. R. Lawson; granddaughter, Meliah (Cliff) Barnes; great-grandchildren, Stormy Lawson, Liam Barnes and Jon Lawson, all of Waverly, Tenn.; siblings, Virgil (Patricia) Wheatley, Faye (Don) Lemmon, Carol Gartin, Janie Smith and Ricky Gullet Sr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville, W. Va. with Mel Gresham, Minister, officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her son, Gary, at the Ellis-Hager Cemetery on Hubert Hill Road, Manila, W. Va. In addition, the remains of Newell Hager will be laid to rest by his son, Gary, and his parents.
Pallbearers are grandson, J. R. Lawson and nephews, John Lemmon, Lewis Gartin, Jason Smith, Ray Wheatley, Michael Wheatley and Ricky Gullet Jr.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville, W. Va.
