Lois Simpson May passed on to her heavenly life on Monday, May 18, 2015, after an extended illness. Mrs. May, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, had been residing with her daughter in the Tri Cities Area for the past two years. Mrs. May was a Christian, a member of the Baptist church, and attended both Parkway Christian and Huffman Assembly in the Birmingham area.
Mrs. May was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ted A. May, her parents, one sister and one brother.
Mrs. May is survived by her son, Mr. Brian May, Moody, Alabama; and her daughter, Dr. Karen Landers, Leighton, Alabama; and granddaughters, Dr. Grace Landers and husband, Lt. Col. Scott Hogue, Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Mrs. Faith Landers Woods and husband, Mr. Billy Woods, Birmingham, Alabama. Coming from a large family, Mrs. May has one surviving sister and five surviving brothers remaining.
Mrs. May was very proud of working on B-29 bombers at Bechtel-McCone during World War II. Although she was too young to be employed in a defense plant, she said she, “looked older because she was tall.” Mrs. May worked for a number of years at Western Union Telegraph where she met her late husband. She retired from Trussville Utilities as credit and collections manager after 28 years.
Mrs. May enjoyed many types of music, including gospel, growing azaleas, cooking and antiques. She was the quintessential Southern belle, never leaving her house without makeup and proper attire.
The family is especially grateful for the loving and individual care provided to Mrs. May by Mrs. Teresa Tippett. In addition, they would like to thank Mrs. May’s primary care physician, Dr. Robert Mann, hospice physicians, Drs.
