Mrs. Lois Johnson Dugger passed away peacefully at NHC on December 7, 2023 at the age of 93. Mrs. Dugger, a respected member of the Culleoka community, was born on March 9, 1930 in Columbia and lived her entire life in Maury County.
A 1947 graduate of Columbia Central High School, she worked numerous jobs in Columbia, where she met the love of her life, James Glenn Dugger, Sr. and they were married in 1948. After their marriage, James Glenn and Lois moved to Culleoka and started their family. Their son James Glenn “Jimmy D” Dugger, Jr. arrived in 1949 and their daughter, Martha Lois arriving 3 years later. Their life was full as a solid family unit in the Culleoka community for the next 65 years.
Lois and James Glenn were very active members of the Friendship Baptist Church for the next 75 years. As a deacon’s wife, Lois worked continually to meet the spiritual needs of the people of Friendship and all of the Culleoka area. Church was a very important part of the Dugger family’s weekly experiences.
Lois was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Ethel Johnson; Glenn and Sybil Dugger, her mother and father-in-law; and the love of her life, James Glenn Dugger, Sr., with whom she shared 65 beautiful years. She is survived by her sisters, Doris Fail, and Jo Ann Walker (James); and her, oh, so special brother C.T. Johnson her best friend in the world; son, James Glenn “Jimmy D” Dugger, Jr.; daughter, Martha Dugger Harris (Don); grandsons, Zachary Harris (Claire) and Preston Harris; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Dugger, and Olivia Harris. As the oldest child, she was always the “mother hen” to her siblings and helped raise all of the kids to be successful adults. She was the glue that kept the Johnson family vibrant, and Aunt Lois was a positive influence for all here nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dugger was actively involved with her husband and father- in-law in the Dugger and Son Grocery in Cully. She was very active in the Culleoka PTA and every school event that took place in Cully. She was there with Jimmy and Martha Lois at every school event, sports, scouts, or parent involvement. Mrs. Dugger was a Girl Scout leader and had her troop out in force during a visit by the First Lady, Ladybird and President Lyndon B. Johnson at the official opening of Columbia State Community College. She was always loving in her response and would never let one of her flock be led astray. If you needed anything in our town of Cully, Lois Dugger was most of the time, a part of the solution and never a part of the problem. With the passing of Lois Dugger, Culleoka has lost another gem.
Lois and James Glenn, were totally involved in the life of their two grandsons, visiting them in school functions, church activities and hundreds of sporting events. “Munner” was always there for them with clothes, food and anything they wanted or needed. When great grandchildren, Evelyn, Dugger, and Oliva arrived, she continued their support of the growing family with spirit and love for the kiddos.
Lois and James Glenn were very actively involved in the lives of their children. An award of honor and excellence was presented to them by their son at the end of his year as president of the Southern Middle Tennessee Board of Realtors. Jimmy D Dugger, a life-long Rotarian bestowed on his loving parents, the Paul Harris award as the highest honor that can be bestowed on a non-Rotarian. James Glenn and Lois were always active in Jimmy D’s life.
