Lois Fay Kilgore, better known as “Big Mama”, was called home on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the age of 92.  She was a life-long resident of Madison County.

“Big Mama” is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Sam Locke; daughter, Donna Hyche; three granddaughters: Julie (Johnny) Hutchens, Ashley (Jeff) Allman and Melinda (Joey) Grisby; five great-grandchildren (and was looking forward to her first great-great-grandchild); and life-long friend Virginia McGrath.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Andrew “Hipocket” Kilgore; a son, Don Waller; granddaughter, Jennifer Powers; grandson, Dean Locke; and great-granddaughter, Brittany Vann.

“Big Mama” was a God-fearing independent woman who worked as a cake decorator for over 20 years. She was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church for many years.  “Big Mama” loved flea markets, yard sales and anywhere she could catch a deal.  She was always ready to go and was always up for an adventure.

She was a huge Atlanta Braves and Alabama football fan. But most importantly, she loved her family and friends.  She was the matriarch of the family and it did not matter who you were or where you came from, you were always welcome at Big Mama’s House.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 27th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home.  Chapel service will be Thursday, April 28th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Troy Taylor and Rev. Kenneth Mitchell officiating.
