Lois F. Thornton Owens, 92, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born December 2, 1930 to the late John Thomas Thornton and the late Maybelle Franks Thornton. Raised through the Great Depression Lois lived a simple life in the country. She enjoyed going to Sandy Springs Church and growing up with her family in the community. She moved up to Chicago area to live with one of her sisters and met her future husband, Malon who was from Guntown. They lived in Chicago and Joliet for 20 years before moving back home. She was a homemaker for most of her life. She loved sewing, cooking, and raising her children and grandchildren. She also loved her church family at Verona Baptist Church..
Services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday August 8, 2023, at Senter Funeral Directors with visitation beginning at 9:00 am Tuesday. Bro. David Hamilton will officiate the service. Burial will be at Sandy Springs Cemetery. Senter Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Survivors include her daughters: Sandra (Joseph) Fondren of Abbyville, MS, Rebecca (Nick) DeClement of Belden, MS, Tina (Mike) Correro of Bards Town, KY; grandchildren: Dawn (Richard) Yeoman, Jeremy (Audi) Wilson, Meghan Kennedy, Madison (Brian) Osbourne, Bailee (Jon) Pope, Maria Dietrich; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great, great crandchild; sister, Luna Moses; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Malon Owens; son, Danny E. Owens; 2nd husband, Frank Doss; brothers: Charlie Thornton, Seburn Thornton, Verlon Thornton; sisters: Ruby Mitchell, Zelma Louge
