Loeita C. Young of Florence Alabama, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Pensacola, Florida. Loeita was born October 16, 1921 in Athens, Alabama to William B. and Molly Shields Coggins. A loving and dedicated wife, she married Ralph E. Young of Florence, Alabama on June 22, 1941. Their wonderful marriage of 65 years produced two children and three grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and daughter-in-law (Sandra) and now resides with them and their Lord in heaven. She is survived by her son, Ralph M. Young (Sandra); and her daughter, Sharon (Bruce Higdon); and her three grandchildren, Ralph Young, Jr., Birmingham; Robert Young, Birmingham, and Brian Higdon, Birmingham.
Loeita was a dedicated 5th grade school teacher for 25 years at J.W. Powell Elementary School, in Florence. She was a long time member of Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority. She and Ralph were very active in Florence’s First Methodist Church and a member of the Graham Couples Class for over 60 years.
Ralph and Loeita enjoyed a wonderful circle of friends and were avid bridge players. They loved summer vacations with the family. In later years they traveled the world together. She had recently moved to Pensacola, Florida to be near her daughter.
Funeral Services will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 11th in Florence, AL, at Elkins Funeral Home on Hermitage Drive. The service will be conducted by Rev. Mike Pope.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3:00 PM. Interment will follow at Florence City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church Building Fund, Florence, Alabama.
