Our beloved mother, LoDean Cleland Scoble, of Huntsville, AL, left this world on December 10, 2024. She was 78 years old. We are comforted knowing she is now reunited with her adored John Scoble, Sr.

She was born on July 18, 1946, in Atlanta, GA to parents Nelma Ann McCurdy and William Henry Cleland, Sr. and was predeceased by her brother, W.H. “Butch” Cleland of Cedartown, GA.

LoDean graduated from South Cobb High School in Austell, GA. She attended UAH in Huntsville and studied Christian Recreation and Youth Development in Montreat, NC.

She married John Scoble in 1986 at Faith Presbyterian Church, in Huntsville and lived in wedded bliss for over 30 years. LoDean leaves behind two daughters, Dena Wilson Stockton (Meck) of Decatur, GA and Leigh Wilson Montillot (Stefan) of Barbizon France; two stepsons, John Scoble, Jr. (Jennifer) of Franklin, TN and Kevin Cartwright Scoble (Suzanne) of Murfreesboro, TN. She leaves nine grandchildren, Grant Scoble (Mallory), Anne-Marie Scoble Hollis (Ryan), Kyle Scoble, Ryan Scoble, Orie Stockton, Annabelle Stockton, Nolwenn Montillot, John Wilson Montillot and Oliver Montillot; seven great grandchildren; along with her dearest niece and nephews, Lori Cleland Scott (Tom), Mark Cleland (Angie) and Chet Cleland (Christy).

Additionally, she leaves two Honorary/Chosen sons, Dr. Mike Shoemaker (Vivianne) and Dr. Larry Shoemaker (Elizabeth).

Living in the Rocket City as she did, she worked in the HR department for various engineering firms associated with NASA.

LoDean, or Meme as she was called by her grans, loved to read, travel, plan parties, play pranks, sometimes loved to cook and always loved to visit family. One of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildren’s various equestrian competitions, dance recitals, music performances, school plays, baseball, basketball, and soccer games. She was able to attend seven of her nine grandchildren’s college graduations.

As a youth LoDean loved water skiing with her brother, often while on his shoulders. They had dreams of auditioning for Callaway Gardens. Roller skating was the favorite sport in which she taught lessons and competed in couples figure skating events.

As a parent she was fierce, loyal, fun, and a free thinker, or as her daughters would say, “we were raised in Hippy Land”.

She was a spiritual seeker. She was fun. She was opinionated, and not afraid to share her thoughts. Mom was our strongest supporter and advocate. She was open minded, loving, and welcoming. She loved us all deeply and worked hard to help us see our worth, conquer our fears and follow God. Being with her family is where she was most happy! Mom was the life of the party, and she will be missed!

She was a long-time member of Faith Presbyterian where she served in various roles including youth Sunday School teacher. She was a much-loved Youth Advisor, served on the Women of the Church board, the Hospitality Committee and was recently selected to serve as a Trustee.

LoDean’s Celebration of Life service will be held on December 21, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. Please join us for a reception after the service where we can exchange laughter, joy, tears, and share tall tales and small truths about our cherished LoDean/Mom/Aunt LoDean/Meme!

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Presbyterian Church.
