Dr. Lloyd Wallace Childs, 78, of Owens Cross Roads, Al , passed away peacefully on July 29, 2017.

Lloyd was born in August 1938 to Blanche and Lloyd Childs in Baltimore, Maryland. Lloyd was devoted to his family.

He is survived by his wife Heike, his daughters Gabriela Childs and Patricia DeAnn Childs Smith her husband Dean and grandson Tripp. Extended family and many friends mourn his death with us. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kim Barrows.

He was a graduate of Cameron University, with a Bachelor of Science, from the University of Oklahoma with a Master of Arts and later he received his doctorate of Philosophy from LaSalle University.

He achieved much and made great impact during his time at the Coast Guard, Martin Marietta, the Lawton Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Department, Wyle Laboratories, Chrysler / Pentastar, Tiffin Motor Homes, Perkins Technical Services, One Boat and B&G Buildings LLC. One of his greatest accomplishment was having ben given the opportunity to field the XM1 tank, later to be known as Abrams M1 tank. He loved to sit on the front porch overlooking the valley while watching the many hummingbirds on the feeder, the turkeys and deer at the edge of the woods. He also loved working with his best friend Ronnie Gentle and others on the complete restoration of his 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix. It was his mission in life to be helpful and kind to all he met. A better man could not be found.

In 2016 Lloyd was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and received wonderful care from Dr. S. Paul Dang and his staff of the Clearview Cancer Institute. During the course of his treatment he found respite in establishing a vegetable garden in which he had pride and joy and utilized this opportunity to share with his family and friends in the adventure.

A celebration of his life will be held at Hampton Cove Funeral Home located at 6262 Highway 431 S, Hampton Cove, Al 35763 on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 4:00 PM. All family, neighbors, and friends are invited.
