Mr. Lloyd P. Roper, age 90, formerly of Gadsden, AL passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 in Huntsville, AL. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Collier-Butler Funeral Chapel with Dr. Roger Beshears officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden. Collier-Butler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd was born January 21, 1933 in Webster’s Chapel to Grady and Easter Roper. He lived most of his life in Gadsden married to Bobbi his sweetheart, lifelong companion and best friend for 69 years. He played trombone in the Emma Sansom High School Band and served in the US Navy. Lloyd earned a degree from Snead State. He sang in the choir and was a deacon in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Lloyd worked many years at the Republic Steel Plant where he was an electrician and general foreman. After he retired from the plant, he enjoyed life on the lake in Guntersville and travelling with Bobbi in their RV. He was a big Alabama football fan. Lloyd enjoyed socializing with friends and family. He was a dancer. After moving to Athens in 2019, he and Bobbi helped revitalize line dancing at the Athens Senior Center where they enjoyed going.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Easter Roper; and his brother, Harold Roper all of Gadsden.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbi; three sons, Randal (Vanessa), Tim (Janie) and David (Nicole); grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean Sundey), Lee (Rebecca), Stacey (Dylan Harrison) Matt, Alle (Parker Swords); and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Lee Roper, Matt Roper, Parker Swords, Dakota Smith, and Dylan Harrison.
The family would like to thank the staff of Athens and Huntsville hospitals.
