Lloyd Melton “Mel” Potts, age 72, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away on May 3, 2024. Born on October 28, 1951, in Gadsden, Alabama, Mel’s life was characterized by love, friendship, and service.
Mel is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Patricia Wright-Potts, his daughters Meredith Jackson (Chris) and Kelly Rogers (John), and his cherished grandchildren Kate and Parker Jackson, Jake Rogers, and Haley Boman. He also leaves behind his lifelong friend Hein Paetz (Jan), along with special friends Jeanie Bentley and Janie Ward.
Mel was preceded in death by his daughter Suzanne Porter Boman, his parents Lloyd Potts and Mildred Melton Potts, and special friends Danny Bentley and Tommy Ward.
A proud graduate of Guntersville High School, Mel pursued higher education at Auburn University before earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from UAH. He played a vital role in managing the Guntersville Airport during the mid-late 1970s, showcasing his leadership and management skills. Mel’s career at NASA spanned over three decades, where he dedicated himself to service at the Marshall Space Flight Center at Redstone Arsenal and NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial visitation from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Way of Marshall County. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
