Lloyd Fowler – Obituary

Mr. Lloyd Fowler, 95, of Florence passed away on October 13, 2015 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth. He was a member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ.

The family will receive friends at the graveside in Greenview Memorial Park on Friday, October 16, 2015 from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with Dr. Kenny Barfield officiating.

Mr. Fowler was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Walker Fowler; son, Douglas Lloyd Fowler; sisters, Claudia Clemmons, Wylodean Thigpen, brothers, Carl Fowler and Fletcher Fowler.

Survivors include his sons, George Edwin Fowler of Watersmeet, MI, Jack Harold Fowler of Huntsville, AL; sister, Dorothy Glover of Florence, AL; grandchildren, Daniel Fowler (Lansdowne, PA), Jackson D Fowler of Huntsville, Alabama, Branca Crow of Madison, Al.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. John Bartmess, Mitchell Hollingsworth and SouthernCare Hospice.

Mr. Fowler was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County and was employed by Reynolds Metals for 42 years. He served in World War II in the message control office of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) under General Dwight D. Eisenhower, and accompanied the Supreme Allied Commander to England, France, and Germany. He prepared messages that included battlefield orders and personal correspondence for General Eisenhower. He was a nature enthusiast and a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital or Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ.
