Linley T. Schultz, Jr., 91, passed away Friday, April 5, 2024 at North Ms. Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. Linley led a full life. While still in school, he became a school bus driver. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and married his wife, Ruth. He served four years, attaining the rank of Sergeant as a flight engineer. His time in the service gave him a love of travel that he would later share with his two sons and wife. There were many memorable stories of his service days including his winter in Iceland.
After his service time, he returned to his hometown to start a family. During the next forty years, he worked in Columbus, MS for Occidental Petroleum, working his way up to Electrical Department Superintendant. He would work a full day, come home, eat supper, then jump on the tractor to work the family farm to support his widowed mother-in-law. After a few hours sleep, it was back to work.
Linley was the original McGyver. He could build whatever he needed out of whatever was on hand. He loved his family, old cars, working in his shop, and in his later years, sitting quietly on his back porch watching the birds and animals at the lake in his back yard. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, Ethelsville, AL.
Services will be Thursday, April 11, 6 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Belmont, MS with Bro. Nathan Hodum officiating. There will be a private family burial at Pine Grove Cemetery in Ethelsville at a later date. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
Linley leaves behind his heart-broken family – his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Renee of Belmont and Chris and Donna of Sevierville, TN; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jessica and Ryan Bostick of Golden; great-grandchildren, Calliana, Paxton and Rylan Bostick; his younger brother, Mayo and two nephews, Roger and Bertis Schultz.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Ruth; his grandson, John Michael, and his parents, Talmadge and Etta Mae.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 11, 5-6 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS.
