Linda “Snookie” Faye Montague, 83, passed away Monday, July 16, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on February 26, 1941 in Lee County to Earl Waddle and Ethel Beam Waddle.
Soft-spoken and kind, Linda graduated from Nettleton High School and went on to work as a ship-shore operator for many years as a civilian contractor.
When her health allowed, Linda cherished the fellowship and spiritual nourishment she found at New Hope Baptist Church. Linda found great joy in her favorite pastimes, especially fishing. She also loved venturing to the casinos, where she enjoyed playing the slot machines.
Linda leaves behind her three children, Beverly Rusoe of San Diego, California, Cheryl England of Mooreville, and Scott Montague of Skyline; three grandchildren, Clay Rusoe, Ty Nichols and his wife, Tiffany, and Cale England and his wife, Charity; one sister, Dorothy Hare of Plantersville; one brother, Benny Mack Waddle of Tupelo; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roch and Mandy Waddle and Calvin and Elvira Beam; parents, Earl Waddle and Ethel Beam Waddle; her husband, Raymond “Ray” Montague; one son-in-law, Randy Rusoe; one grandson, Monty Nichols; and two sisters, Carolyn Moran and Peggy Parker.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Cody Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Cemetery.
