Linda Faye Hudspeth Mizell left her earthly body to be with her Lord and Savior on November 16, 2023, at the age of 81.  Linda was born to Max and Mary Hudspeth in 1942 in Dothan Alabama.  She was raised in, and would forever call, Marietta Georgia home.  She graduated from Marietta High School and afterwards attended the defining educational institution of her life, at Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1963.  The skills and training received at Piedmont Hospital, she carried with her to multiple hospitals and caregiving offices in Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama.  In 1980, she and her husband, Dr. Terrence A Mizell, settled in Hazel Green Alabama and had their son, Mark.

Linda spent nearly twenty years of her life dutifully attending to the medical needs of her community as a nurse for Dr. Charles Merryman at the New Market Clinic.  She saw to her family’s spiritual needs as a faithful member of Hazel Green United Methodist and New Market United Methodist, where she was a member at the time of her passing.  Linda rejoiced in her community and the countless friendships she fostered.  The happiest moments of her life were spending time with her grandson, Alex.  She received her most desired promotion to “Gammy.”

The stories of Linda’s gentle hand with the instruments of nursing and her bedside manner resonate through Madison County Alabama from nearly everyone who knew her or was a patient of New Market Clinic.  Her dutiful attendance and willingness to support her churches in any manner her Lord required made her a beloved friend and member of her congregations.  One of her personally proudest accomplishments was her continued mastery of the simple southern dishes she learned to prepare from her mother.  Whether it was her immediate family, church gatherings, delivered dishes during difficult times, the Hazel Green High School football team, or the members of her son’s college fraternity, no one ever left her table hungry.  One of her greatest pleasures in life was preparing a meal for her loved ones.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Max and Mary Hudspeth.  Linda is survived by her husband of 58 years, Terrence, her son Mark (Nicole), and her grandson Alexander.  She is also survived by her sisters Susan Hargrove (Tim) and Barbara Sircy (Don).

Services for Linda will be held at the Hazel Green Funeral Home on December 2, 2023.  The family will receive visitors from 9:00 am till 11:00 am, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Ark Inc., or the New Market Volunteer Fire Department.
