Linda Ballard Steed, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care Center in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born on May 6, 1939, in Newton, North Carolina. Linda graduated from Newton Conover High School and Birmingham Southern College.
Linda is survived by her daughter, Kelli Perrin; her son, Chad Steed; grandchildren, Hunter Howard, Abbey Steed, Millie Steed, and Bailey Perrin; great-grandchildren, Kennidee and William; nieces, Nicole Terry and Sarah O’Hern; nephews, Shawn Terry and Matthew Campbell, and countless other loved ones. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Steed, parents, J.B. and Eulie Ballard, and her sister, Leatrice Miller.
Everyone who knew Linda felt her big heart and loving nature. She enhanced many young lives throughout her twenty plus years of teaching at Blossomwood Elementary School. She was dedicated to her profession, and a past president of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of women educators. Linda was also a very talented artist. She was a member of Alabama Plein Air Artists, and Tuesday Art Girl’s Painting Club. Linda was also a long-time member of First United Methodist Church and the Faith Sunday School Class.
The family would like to thank Huntsville Hospital, Inisclee Hale & staff, and Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care Center for the warm and compassionate care they gave Linda over the past month. The family would also like to thank the First United Methodist Church staff and our friends for their love, support, and many prayers.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, September 15th in the historic sanctuary of First United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held following visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
