Linda graduated from Sheffield High School in 1961. She worked in the lab of Colbert County Hospital until she met and married Gene Johnson, the love of her life, in 1964. They moved to Muscle Shoals in 1965 and lived there for the remainder of their lives. Linda was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and attended services at Cox Boulevard Church of Christ. Linda was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Jennie and Sherry. Linda and Gene loved Auburn football and were tried and true members of the War Eagle faithful. She and Gene were members of the Wildflower Society before his passing in 2011. Linda loved flowers as was evident in her beautiful yard every summer. She also kept the church’s flower garden in memory of Gene. Their yard was also featured in the Shoals Garden Tour. Linda and Gene were volunteers at Helen Keller Hospital with the Keller Auxiliary. In the 11.5 years Linda worked as a volunteer at Keller, she logged 4,256 hours of service. She recently completed a two-year term as Auxiliary President. Linda was a very giving and social person. She looked forward to getting together with her neighbors for their monthly neighborhood dinner, her monthly lunches with the SHS Sweethearts, and she loved to participate in game night with the ladies group from Tuscumbia Church of Christ. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Marlon and Virginia Lowery, an infant brother, Charles Benny, and her husband of 46 years Eugene L. Johnson. She is survived by her daughters, Jennie Staub (Jay) of Athens, AL and Sherry Johnson of Florence, AL, a grandson, SPC Stephen Blake Haddock of Florence, currently deployed to the Middle East with the 115th Signal Battalion, and a greatgranddaughter Lyla June Valdez, California; brother-in-law Jim Johnson, Huntsville, sister-in-law Jerry Johnson, Birmingham, a very special cousin Anne Phillips of Oakland, TN, two nieces, one nephew, and many cousins on both sides of the family. Linda will be terribly missed by her two beloved cats, Precious and Punkin’, and her four granddogs. Her daughters would like to thank the nurses and doctors working the night shift at Keller Hospital on January 8th for their hard work and persistence that gave us a few extra precious moments with our Mother.
